The internship helped me consider marketing research as my possible career option. I had prior knowledge regarding this field from taking Marketing Research course last semester. After experiencing and working on projects that research marketers do, I have gained more interest about it. I have researched in depth about this area after realizing that I like marketing research and I would love to know more about it. Also, I discovered after interacting with the co-workers from different departments that I am fascinated about other career options as well, such as graphic design and culinary art. These areas could be an option if I decide to go to graduate school. Not only are they interesting, but they also tie well with my marketing major.
Comparing my career goals from the first week of the internship to now, I see that my goals have become more specific and realistic. My goal at the first week was to simply get as much new experience as I could. As long as I was experiencing something I have not before, I was satisfied with that because I did not know what to expect. I am more experienced now, which has helped me differentiate which areas I enjoy and dislike. My goals have been shaped in a way that I would learn more about the marketing research/analytic side. I have narrowed my area within marketing instead looking at the broad picture. I am not sure what my next step will be. I think another internship would prepare me better for a full-time employment, but at the same time I think I am ready to work full-time after graduation. I am not sure about graduate school yet because I would like to work for about a year or two to build my experience. I think working will allow me to visualize better what I would like to do.
