Demonstrated Achievement #5: Conducted researches to begin preparing for two big events that is coming up in late summer: the company's 8th anniversary and the opening of a new bakery.
Explanatory Paragraph: My marketing supervisor asked me to brainstorm of ideas for each of the events. For the anniversary event, she asked me to think of possible plans, which would entertain the guests who will be attending. For the opening event for the new bakery, my supervisor asked me to come up with promotional strategies that would spread the word about the new opening. I found helpful information and pictures on the web that I could propose to my supervisor. I looked up pictures to help convey my thoughts on certain ideas. I thought that including images with my written proposal made it easier to visualize the final picture.
Reflective Learning/ Skills Paragraph: I began looking for information about the anniversary event first. I realized that I need to be patient and persistent in finding good enough information for the events. Because these two events are pretty important, I needed to make sure I was coming up with decent proposals for consideration. When I could not find information right away, I did not give up. Instead of stopping my research when I could not find enough information, I persistently looked for others ways by changing up my key search words and phrasing of words. Even though it took hours to complete my research, I learned that having patience will help you achieve your goals, especially during times when you feel like you are not progressing.
Career Development Paragraph: Not every assignment or tasks given will work out exactly as you have planned. During times when your plans fail, being patient and persistent will help you achieve your goals eventually. It is easy and tempting to give up along the way, but I know that choosing to do that would not benefit me in any career. This assignment has taught me to be more patient and persistent. The end result will be rewarding from bearing through the tough process.

Demonstrated Achievement #4: Assisted in constructing a Wechat post for Farine to invite consumers to participate on social media with the company.
Explanatory Paragraph: The Farine staff of the company wanted the marketing team to work on a social media post to increase the engagement of the consumers on Wechat. The staff also wanted us to create a survey for a few invited consumers to participate in, which would allow the company to realize how others perceive the Farine brand. My marketing supervisor and I started working on the survey first. We brainstormed on ways to ask the most appropriate questions, ordering the them carefully from broad to specific. After completing the survey, we worked on ways to formulate the Wechat post. We wanted it to be interesting, so that people would want to click on it. We were able to find a creative way to grab attention by saying that the audience could “be” a Farine product depending on how they were loyal to the company. If you were matched up with a certain description, you would be a certain product. Then we worked on writing up a description to instruct the company’s followers how to be “matched” with these products. The company is planning to invite a few commenters to Farine to participate in the survey. They will be given a 100 RMB check to spend at Farine to thank them for their time.
Reflective Learning/ Skills Paragraph: I began constructing the survey without thinking about the objective. Instead, I researched and brainstormed on ways to structure the survey professionally. As a result, when I showed my completed draft of my survey to my supervisor, she had to instruct me on how to improve it. She told me that I was off to a good start, but many important factors were missing. After meeting with my supervisor, I realized that I was missing the whole purpose of the survey, which was to understand the consumer’s perception of the brand. With a specific goal in mind, I created my next draft of survey, which improved tremendously. The next step was to think of a way to creatively write the post. After playing around with some ideas, my supervisor and I decided to be fun by proposing a “matching” game. The plan was to be a little silly to grab attention. I did not realize how random and silly you could get during work. Apparently you can get as random as matching someone to a croissant!
Career Development Paragraph: Most of the tasks and work we invest our time and energy into have a purpose, but I tend to forget that sometimes. It is helpful to keep the objective in mind because it guides me toward the right direction. I have realized that I can be forgetful, so I will work on visualizing the big picture for every assignment that I work on. By training myself to do this, I will not be as forgetful at my future career, allowing me to work more efficiently.

Demonstrated Achievement #3: Sent out emails to brand and event agency clients for Le Rooftop to remind them about the rooftop bar and dining that is open for the summer until November.
Explanatory Paragraph: My marketing supervisor asked me to send out the emails for the clients because they might be interested in checking out Le Rooftop. She sent me all of the clients’ information, including their positions of the companies and their emails. She clearly stated that every one of the email had to be personalized depending on who it was going to be for because many of them held different positions for different companies. I read over the emails several times before sending them to proofread for any mistakes. Even though it took several hours to complete this task, I did not make any careless error. I even received a positive response from a client, thanking the company for sending him an email.
Reflective Learning/Skills Paragraph: I began slowly because I did not want to hurt the company’s reputation by making a mistake, but I was working too slowly. I was sending only about three emails per hour. I realized soon that I was taking too long by being overly careful, and then I thought that there must be a more efficient way to handle this. After brainstorming of ways to make the most out of my time, I thought of ways to be more innovative. I grouped clients depending on the position they held and matched them with the corresponding personalized message all organized in a word document. After every position was matched, I divided up the groups into different companies each client was a part of. This method was much faster, and as a result, I was sending about ten emails each hour. Once I had each client paired up with the appropriate message, I copied and pasted the information to the email. I made sure not to include the contact email until the very end, so that in case I accidentally clicked ‘send,’ the mail would not go through. After the message was copied onto the email, I proofread every one several times. I learned that diving straight into a task right away is not the best method. Just like this task, I came up with a better strategy once I stopped what I was doing to analyze the situation. In future cases, I need to think of the best possible way to manage a task, instead of tackling it immediately.
Career Development Paragraph: It is helpful to think through every life situations, no matter what it may be. It is not the best choice to jump into any task without much given thought. This emailing task reminded me of how much more thought I should give for each of my work. Any assignment given to me next will be carefully thought through, so that during the rest of my internship and for my future career, I will be a better planner and a more efficient worker.

Demonstrated Achievement #2: Assisted in researching and organizing material for the “Wine of the Month” section of the company’s monthly newsletter to inform customers about the featured monthly wine at Franck Bistrot restaurant.
Explanatory Paragraph: The Franck Company publishes monthly newsletters, consisting of four sections most of the time, which my marketing supervisor writes up. For the most current newsletter, she asked me to help her with the “Wine of the Month” section. She assigned this month’s featured wine, Cuvee Solstice Domaine, Philippe Viret (2012), to me for research and to gather information. I struggled at first to find information because most of the articles were in French, but after receiving my supervisor’s help, I was able to find helpful sites to continue my research.
Reflective Learning/Skills Paragraph: I began my research about the wine on Google, but for the first hour or so, I had no luck in finding a decent English article because most of the articles were in French. Instead of panicking, I took advantage of my problem solving skills to determine what would be the best thing to do next. I was able to improve my skill through this experience because the newsletter had to be completed by a certain time, and I was nowhere close, but I managed to keep myself calm by thinking through the situation. I decided to find as much information as I could until meeting with my supervisor to receive help. Once I saw her within a few hours, I asked for her help. She was more than happy to help me look up helpful sites, so that I could find useful information in English. I was then able to complete a written draft about the research I had done. Looking at my draft, my supervisor suggested that I improve it by going more in depth, so I went back on the Internet and did some more research to add to my work. After two more revisions, my draft was finally ready for my supervisor to work with. I learned that research is something that takes more time and effort than I thought it would take. I also realized that just because you complete a draft of some write-up does not mean that the research process is over. There is always room for more research once you realize your draft needs improvement. I realized that fixing one or two grammar errors or restructuring a sentence is just not enough.
Career Development Paragraph: During the rest of this internship and my future career, I will have to conduct more research in order to effectively market products or ideas. The newsletter assignment helped me assess my researching skills. Because I was lacking on how to do research, I struggled a bit at the beginning of the assignment, but soon I learned of ways to successfully do one. My research skills have improved already, and I believe the more research I conduct, the stronger my skills will become. Strong research skills will definitely benefit my future career because that allows a company to acquire crucial information needed for a successful business.

Demonstrated Achievement #1: Assisted in writing and publishing a WeChat article to promote a new seasonal item in Farine bakery.
Explanatory Paragraph: The Farine Bakery Company wanted to market its Rhubarb Tart, a new seasonal item on the menu, so that it could be widely known to the customers. My marketing supervisor asked me to help her with this marketing project. I worked with her to figure out the layout of the article and which material to include. My responsibility was to think of creative ways to portray the tart in an article. I had never worked on an article that got published before.
Reflective Learning/Skills Paragraph: Once I was assigned to the project, I learned ways to phrase the article in a way that the tart would sound the most appetizing as possible. For example, instead of simply saying, "rhubarb topping," I worked on transforming the dessert description to "melting cuts of baked rhubarb." I also did a research on rhubarb because it is not a common food item that many people know about. My supervisor and I thought that it would be helpful to include information about rhubarb in the article. I found useful and interesting facts about rhubarb to share with the public. I did not know what rhubarb was before I began this project, but now I know more about it than most people. I also learned that rhubarb is popularly used in many desserts and jams across the world. I was pleased with the final draft of the article, and it is now available for public view on the company's WeChat site.
Career Development Paragraph: It is important to know how to effectively communicate for any career field you are in. My career field, business, heavily depends on how you communicate with others. Through this project, I have learned how to phrase words differently and professionally, in a way to convey information so that it is appealing to the audience. I have also developed my creative skills by experimenting ways to format the article and brainstorming ways to promote the Rhubarb Tart. Now that I realize that phrasing of words is crucial in reaching customers, I will work on developing my communication skills further to a professional level, which would be beneficial for my future career.
