My business courses, especially, has prepared me for my internship the most. Specifically, the classes regarding my major, the marketing classes that I took, is helping me the most. This week, I worked with my marketing supervisor to construct a survey for the Farine bakery customers. Because I took Marketing Research class the previous semester, I knew what she was talking about when she said words like, “demographic segmentation”. I did not have to ask her to clarify what she meant. Because I had created a survey in my classes before, the process did not seem so foreign to me. I was able to apply my knowledge about surveys to the work given at my internship. For example, since I learned from class to avoid personal and specific questions at the beginning of the survey and place them near the end, I followed that rule. I would not have known that if I did not take the Marketing Research course, and I would have been informed by my supervisor instead about it. I also believe the very first class I took at KU, English 101, helped me a lot during my internship so far. When I have to communicate verbally, either through emails or messaging between my co-workers, or need to market ideas through articles, grammar and sentence structuring is very important. Because I learned the basic principles of English rules my freshman year of college, it is helping me communicate in a professional level without much trouble. I did not realize back then, but I am glad that I have the basics learned.
